This was just scrumptious. I wasn't even expecting it. I went on my morning walk along the beach and stopped by my mother's place for coffee. This is what I got to go along with my coffee. Probably the best carrot cake I have ever eaten. My mom is a very good cook and a great baker. She doesn't do it much anymore. But I remember birthday cakes shaped like bears and clowns and such for all of us when we were little. And homemade bread. And other dishes that as I child I didn't want to try, I would now! To have someone cook for you is such a wonderful thing. What's better than that?
My great grandmother was a great cook also, a very Southern cook. Lots of meat and potatoe dishes, not alot of salads for dinner but great creamy sauces. Fried chicken and fried corn bread were a couple of my favorites. I defnitely wish I'd paid more attention. I don't really remember either of them really trying to teach us how to cook, it was more of them wanting us out of the kitchen and out of the way of hot stoves!
