Merry Christmas

Lucky for me Santa brought me a new crystal vase this year because this one is no longer : (  I got it for Mother's Day years ago.  Well, these candles burned quite low the other night and I just didn't notice with all that was going on.   The cranberry wreath at the bottom caught fire and turned into a little blaze very quickly.   Fortunately we keep a couple of fire extinguishers in the house and the fire was out in seconds but not before my vase exploded and broke into many pieces.  There is a burn mark on my table too, which looks like it will be easy enough to touch up.  Middle Son has already sanded down the wood.   We are all just glad we noticed immediately and got the fire put out before any real damage could be done.   It was good to find out that fire alarms are working, the fire extinguisher works and that everyone listens when I remind them and myself where the fire extinguishers are from time to time,  just in case.   Kind of like a fire drill in a way and a little reminder to keep our eyes on all those candles.  I love candles and fires in the fireplace but they really can be dangerous need to be watched.  A reminder for us!

Christmas day was WONDERFUL and relaxing.   Everyone was quite happy with their gifts, given and received.   I made a turkey for Christmas dinner which I love, it is such an easy thing to prepare.  Seasoned it and put it in the Reynolds oven bag with a 1/2 onion and a few cloves of garlic inside and just turn it on and leave it for a few hours!    It turned out wonderfully, not dry at all and the gravy I made from the turkey juice and drippings was really good too.   It was a perfect day; a house full of happy people, good easy food, plenty of chocolate and treats at arms length and a stack of holiday movies and books!   After dinner and cleaning up I sat and watched movies, read and ate chocolate until really late.   Perfect day!!

My holiday movie list:

Little House on the Prairie Christmas

Avonlea Christmas

Beauty and the Beast Christmas

Charlie Brown Christmas

The Night Before Christmas  (animated from when I was a kid, this one's at least 45 years old)

The Christmas Wife   (Jason Robards and Julie Harris)

White Christmas (Bing Crosby)

I watched all of these yesterday and even squeezed in a Hallmark Channel movie too  :  )     It was great to just lay around and watch TV after all the hustle and bustle of the last few weeks.

Merry Christmas  Joyeux Noel  Season's Greetings  Blessed Yule!!!

I loved looking at your bookshelf....we have pretty similar tastes, I think.
Happy Reading

I am so sorry to hear about your previous vase, how frightening that must have been for you! Makes my cinnamon bun fire drama not feel so bad. I am glad that you replaced it and had a fantastic holiday. Nice choice of Christmas specials! Happy New Year my friend.

Loved your Christmas movie list, there are some of my favorites on it, too. And I would add A Christmas Story("You'll shoot your eye out, kid!")and A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott or Alistair Sim as Scrooge.

Sounds like a holiday memory you'll never forget! So sorry about your vase, but I'm completely impressed by your preparedness regarding fire protection. Just visited the fire station with my preschool classes today, so fire safety is on my mind :).
