I went on a short trip this weekend to San Francisco for the first time in 30 years. First time I was 17 and went with my high school band. I don't remember much from that trip, the highlight was sleeping in the gym at a school in the area. I LOVED San Francisco. I plan to go there more often. My cousin lives in Oakland and works in S.F., I can visit her anytime, just never did! I went with my aunt and my mom and we had the most excellent time. I think going to China Town was really fun. I have never been to China Town, even though we have one nearby where I live. I will go now, I think. I just loved this picture. I shopped for my niece's for Christmas there, in C T, they are two little girls who have or get everything, I really got them something different. Little Chinese pajamas and the Chinese dresses with the high collars and the frog buttons. Just beautiful. And red shoes. The shopkeeper said Red Shoes are good luck in Chinese. And I loved the Financial district. My cousin works there, and just the hustle and bustle on Monday morning, everyone walking everywhere in their coats and scarfs and umbrellas (it rained). I tried Ethopian food for the first time ever in Berkeley. It was good, different, interesting. Reminded me a little later of the moment in the movie "Along Came Polly" a Ben Stiller moment............if you've seen it I don't need to say more!

Hi ..thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. It is my understanding that the spider story and tradition began in Germany, but don't quote me on that.
Your trip to San Fran looks neat. We have a China town in Toronto, but I never go there. You kinda take those places for granted until visitors come from out of town and then you take them to visit. Silly isn't it ?
Glad you had a good time.

Hi Redwoman,

Thanks for the nice note on my blog. I'm glad that my painting brought back good memories for you. This whole thing with painting is new for me.

I've only been to SF once in my life. It was very special. I remember really good breakfasts there -- oatmeal with fresh berries, incredible waffles. The hills. I watched people do Tai Chi in the big park (Golden Gate?). Thanks for posting the evocative photo.
